Creative Weaving

I am in the process of reviewing The Jinni’s Wish, which will be available for the first time in print in early 2025 and included in a collection with two other urban fantasy novelettes. This story ties into the new ones I wrote about werewolves in New York much more than I realized. As I read through it, I am pleased to note that I am still in love with this couple. In addition, their story provides an important bridge between Twist Of Fate and Sea Of Dreams (Prequel and Book 1) and is currently available only in Library 1 of the Power Of Four series or by signing up to my newsletter.

It references things in Twist Of Fate that I had forgotten about and provides an understanding of these characters that wasn’t always available to the reader in the four main books. While I wrote all the stories as stand-alone romances, they are all connected by tiny threads. Even the new ones written with this world in mind are connected back to their origins by the antagonist in the series. Like me, she is a dabbler, although I am not quite as naughty as she is. Now that I’m pulling on the threads, I’m happy to see that my weaving holds true. Arachne would be proud. (Now I am mixing worlds… or am I?)

I’ve been reflecting on my writing journey, which is 10 years and counting so far (from when I decided to get serious about it). When I read this line, that I wrote so long ago, I realize that this would have been something today DA would have told starting out DA about disappointments. Putting your creative self out there for everyone to have an opinion about isn’t easy, but I know now it’s all part of the journey. A journey I am looking forward to continuing over the next few decades.

The layers of the past built up like skin, sometimes thinned and bruised, most often thick like leather. The choices made often determined which you grew; she had learned that the hard way. The Jinni’s Wish – D.A. Henneman

I’m excited for this Collection. It represents closing the loop on a project that got me through some crazy times, giving readers a small update on what has happened with the characters, and preparing me for my level-up. I am ready for the growth and what comes next, more than I ever could have imagined at the start of my journey.

What clicked in my mind the other day is that my antagonist will be traveling alongside me when we head into the next story. Together, we will be working on a 2.0 version of ourselves. She is already firmly rooted in my mind and in the first few pages of my new manuscript, albeit she is a much darker version of the facet she shows in the Power Of Four series. It is like she has been waiting patiently for the opportunity to tell her story and her time has finally come. And while she only has one sister (so far) in this story, the relationship she has with her is familiar and painful. She’s ready to dig deeper, as am I.

So, here’s to learning… persevering… and never quitting especially when it comes to our dreams.

Challenging ourselves to become better versions of ourselves every day.

And for taking the path into the darkest part of ourselves and learning what is waiting there for us.

For in my mind, facing fear is the only way we overcome it.
