When the Muse Strikes…

One lights a match…

I post Inspirational Images of my Work In Progress (WIP) on social, but it occurred to me that not everyone is getting those messages. This came to me when trying to navigate my decisions on where I spend my personal “currency.” To me, it isn’t just about where I spend my money, which will go through some changes for sure, but it is more about where I spend my time.

That all said, in my cryptic DA way, I decided four things:

  1. That you also decide where to spend your time, so thank you for spending it with me. I hope you continue to do so, but understand if you too are deciding on where to pull back.
  2. That my insight, struggles, and stories of my journey are much better off in a place of my own. It took me a while to figure it out, but I’m back and ready to continue the work I started.
  3. I need to blog more… to share all the things I’m researching, digesting, and rolling into my fiction. The benefit to you is a “peek” in the diary. The benefit to me is I have it all written somewhere central.
  4. And finally… I need to leave some places I find myself… more on that later.

What inspired me to write today is the image below. It popped out at me this week because my character lives behind what I think of as “the grey.” Sort of what I feel I was doing by spreading myself in places I didn’t have time to engage in. Those places, frankly, got a watered-down version of DA. Like my thought process, my current WIP has a ton of layers that I am currently peeling back and I have a feeling that as much as I would like to finish it by the end of the year… my journey with this story is only beginning. In a roundabout way, this brought me to Groundhog Day (Imbolc).

Today we celebrate the mid-point between winter and spring, and the Pagan equivalent to waiting for Punxsutawney Phil to pop his head out, is a celebration known as Imbolc. This celebration, meaning “in the belly,” is rooted in Celtic traditions and is aptly named as ewes would show signs of pregnancy, thus heralding the coming of spring. It is an awakening of life under the frost, and the perfect time for me, or any creative, to be diving into a new project.

Living in the grey is what we do most of the winter in my part of the world and, in some cases, what some folks have been doing since last November. But spring will be here before we know it, and with that, the hope of renewal, rebirth, and life-giving warmth. I’m going to hold on to that promise, whether or not our furry friend scurries back into his hole to delay the inevitable. I’m also going to keep in mind that no matter what I throw at my characters… there is always a chance for them to get out of the “grey.”

Wishing you all abundance and warmth in the coming season. For me, I will light the fires of creativity and spend the next few months fanning them! Can’t wait to see what my Muse has in store for me!
